Welcome to the start of your safari and welcome to Tanzania! You've chosen a fantastic place for your safari journey and we'll get you started with an introductory briefing before we head out to begin the trip you've been dreaming of.

Many travelers rate Tarangire among their favorite national parks anywhere in Tanzania. Here in Tarangire, you can look for lions, leopards, and cheetahs. But you won’t have to look hard to see baboons, vervet monkeys, wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes and zebras. And you’ll come across elephants and baobabs everywhere, two giants of the African bush. Also an enjoyable part of your Tarangire experience will be the rolling savannah scenery, which includes rivers and low hills. And while it can get busy, crowds of cars will not be a problem here.

Morning

Go on a guided game drive amid the baobab trees of Tarangire National Park this morning. On the drive, your guide will help you look for the lions and elephants for which the park is famous. It's a wonderful opportunity to ask all of the questions you want.

Something of an oasis in the busy town of Karatu, Bougainvillea Safari Lodge has big stone bungalows spread around a green garden with plenty of palm trees and a pool at its center. The rooms are spacious and come with mosquito nets, fireplaces and small outdoor sitting areas, and there's a gift shop, massage room and restaurant.

Serengeti National Park

Welcome to the Unesco World Heritage–listed Serengeti, one of Africa’s top safari destinations. While you’re here, there’s an excellent chance that you’ll see leopards along the dry riverbanks, cheetahs out on the grasslands, and elephants, giraffes and all kinds of antelopes everywhere across the park. Watch also for the Serengeti’s famous lion prides. And that’s just the start. Some of the largest and most diverse wildlife populations on the planet roam the Serengeti, not to mention millions of wildebeest and zebras who migrate across the plains every year.

Serengeti National Park is filled with wildlife and an expert guide will help you look for big cats, elephants and other species this morning on your guided game drive. The Serengeti's grasslands are sure to be a visual highlight.

Come with us this morning for a guided game drive. We love showing off the landscapes and wildlife of Serengeti National Park, and part of the excitement is about never quite knowing which animals are going to appear.

Early Morning

There are no better views in Tanzania than the ones you'll enjoy on your dawn balloon ride over the Serengeti. Viewing the scenery and wildlife from above is an amazing experience.

The amazing wildlife of the central Serengeti often passes right by your tent when you stay with us at Baobab Serengeti Camp, the camp is right by the often-dry Orangi River. At night, lions often roar close by and lying in bed and listening is a real Serengeti highlight. The supremely comfortable safari tents are complemented by a dining and a lounge tent. The nightly campfire is watched over by an incredible night sky.

Day 4

Ngorongoro Crater

You never forget the first time you see Ngorongoro Crater from above. Looking out from the rim of this extraordinary volcanic crater is like gazing down upon a lost world of wildlife and astonishing beauty. The drive down into the crater will be just as special, taking you down onto the crater floor where nature rules and no human being may pass the night. You'll spend the best part of a day exploring this remarkable place, seeing its lions, hyenas, black rhinos, elephants, flamingos and so much more. And when it comes time to leave, you'll keep looking back over your shoulder trying to hold these experiences in your memory.

On your guided game drive through Ngorongoro Crater this morning, your expert guide will introduce you to this remarkable place and help you find lions, spotted hyenas and black rhinos.

Day 5

Lake Manyara National Park

Strung out in the shadow of the Rift Valley escarpment, that great fracture in the earth’s surface that divides Africa in two, Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania’s more unusual parks. Here you’ll certainly see the elephants for which the park is famous, and, if you’re really lucky, one of the park’s equally well-known tree-climbing lions. There’s also a lake filled with wading birds, plenty of olive baboons, and dense forests that make you feel that exciting animals could emerge from the trees at any moment. It’s a wonderful chance to mark the transition between the lower plains and the Crater Highlands (with Ngorongoro Crater) away to the west.

Your safari will come to a close, but we hope that your love affair with Africa and with the whole safari experience is just beginning.
